Meetings 2014-16

We were fortunate to have Rotarian Bernie Simmonds and his wife Lyne visiting from Naples, Florida.

Rotarian Ron Cannan spoke to the club (non-politically) about drug legislation and the problems of licensing Marijuana

The meeting, the first with an official Greeter and a designated fellowship time before the main proceedings included:

• Diane Groffen, Executive Director of the Literacy Project Kelowna
• And a Sponsor Award to Chris DeHart

Two speakers graced the meeting:

• Kasey Sjodin, our sponsored student at RYLA who gave an in depth enthusiastic insight into the RYLA weekend, the projects and subjects and the weekend as an event.
• Sarah McKinnon, from the Boys and Girls Club, spoke about the work they perform with disadvantaged youngsters in |Kelowna and the projects that are supported by donations from OKM and other Kelowna Rotary Clubs.

The President presented a cheque for $2,500 to Sarah.

Paul Winkler and wife. Mary Lynn Winkler visited OKM to talk about his struggle with powerful newspaper magnates and the effect it had on their lives.

He brought copies of Mary Lynn's book, 'A Costly Stand' and several members bought copies which Paul signed.
